What are Cataracts?

Cataracts occur when the normally clear lens of the eye becomes cloudy. Having cataracts is like looking through a dusty or foggy car windshield. Aging is the most common cause of cataracts and usually take years to develop.

Causes of Cataracts

  • Having certain medical conditions, such as diabetes
  • Spending alot of time in the sun without wearing sunglasses
  • Certain medications such as corticosteroids
  • Especially long term use
  • Family members with Cataracts
  • Previous eye injuries or eye surgeries

Symptoms of Cataracts

  • Sensitivity to light
  • Having dim, blurred or clouded vision
  • Having double vision
  • Yellowing or fading of bright colors
  • Frequent changes in eye glass or contact lens perscription
  • Increased difficulty with vision during the evening
  • Distorted vision
  • Needing more light while reading
